Visa

The entry visa to Madagascar is compulsory issued either by the Malagasy consular in your country or at the arrival at the airport or the port for a fee depending on the length of the stay. The price of the tourist visa is about 56 euros.

The duration of the stay is 90 days maximum. Arrival and departure must take place within six months from the date of issue of the visa.

This non-immigrant visa is neither extendable nor convertible into a long-stay visa and does not give rise to the right to engage in gainful employment.

 

Franchise on arrival

On arrival, travelers are entitled to deductible on the following products :

  • 2 liters of alcoholic beverages per major traveler.

  • 2 cartridges, or 20 packs of cigarettes.

Clothing and accessories not of commercial character.

They also have the right to import optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, control or precision equipment, or medical and surgical equipment. Conditions apply and are defined by the customs office upon arrival in Madagascar. Taxable items can also be wound up automatically.

 

Restrictions

Wildlife products prohibited under the Washington Convention are banned from importing into Madagascar.

In addition, some items require authorization to be imported into the territory. These include precious woods and works made from these same materials, agricultural and livestock products, precious metals and jewelry, weapons and ammunition, and domestic animals.

For non-residents, an export declaration is compulsory for precious metals and punched jewelry whose total weight exceeds 1 kg.

Currencies in excess of 10,000,000 ariary must be reported to customs.

 

Security charge from Madagascar

The Civil Aviation of Madagascar informs all passengers traveling from Madagascar that a security charge is applicable, from all international airports in Madagascar, tourist tax of 10 Euros per passenger, except passengers in direct transit.

 

Papers required upon arrival

Passport compulsory and valid 6 months after the date of return. The passport must have at least 2 blank pages face to face.

Passengers traveling to Madagascar must present the paper copy of their electronic ticket upon arrival. Any passenger who does not present this document will be returned by the authorities.

A round-trip or continuation ticket (with visas or residence permit for the country of return or continuation if necessary) of an accommodation address (hotel name is sufficient).
